Uhhhh, if you are face to face. Also I have been told that a woman can end up with a UTI when a sick (flu, cold etc) partner performs oral sex on them.

Of course, if someone coughs in your face, if you kiss someone, ect. Mono can be caught from kissing or eating or drinking after someone. The flu can be caught by breathing in the germs when they cough or sneeze and your within roughly 3 feet of them. You don't have to be having sex, but I guess you could be.
