Probably not. We're getting better at discovering them though and calling them what they really are. Up until the 19th century for instance, just about everything was either the "rheumatiz" the "colic", or the rich mans disease, the Gout. Catch alls for hundreds of different ailments.

They did not even have a microscope to see a virus over a century ago. They could see bacteria, they are larger. They could see that cells were diseased. We are better at differentiating and detecting viruses nowadays.
