I have genital herpes, but i am afraid of getting pregnant in the future.
Put Your Death Mask On
I don't have genital herpes. Nor have I had a baby.
Tori
I've had genital herpes since I was 16yo
I have 3 perfectly healthy children....not one sign of herpes of any type
I had a scheduled c-section with all of them...for fear that labor & deliver may cause stress on my body & cause an outbreak
Stress (mental...worrying) is the biggest trigger of herpes outbreak - including stress of the body (contractions) & skin (clothes that rub or rough sex)
***That's a pretty decent link, Rob...but please don't fall for the "herpes cure" links around it***they do NOT WORK**** Please do not waste your $ $ $ on that crap

I have genital herpes too and am trying to get pregnant.
Yes women with genital herpes can have healthy babies.
Most doctors would recommend a c-section and some suppressive therapy that is safe to use during pregnancy. All of this would help to prevent passing herpes onto a baby.
If you have an out break at the time of delivery then you would most likely have a c-section recommended to you. Herpes can be passed on as the baby comes through the birth canal and it can cause blindness, brain damage even death in babies.
Talk to your doctor if your thinking about getting pregnant and they should talk to you and take all the proper precautions with you.

Genital herpes does not affect your baby when it is in your womb. That's a very important thing to know. It doesn't increase the risk of birth defects or anything like that.
The ONLY danger is that your baby would catch your herpes as it is being born - since herpes is spread through skin-to-skin contact. And herpes in a newborn can be very very bad.
Your doctor can protect your baby from this by scheduling a c-section. Many women with herpes deliver vaginally, after having taking a course of antivirals to supress outbreaks. Just talk to your ob/gyn about it once you get pregnant.
I've put a link below to some reliable, easy-to-read information about herpes and pregnancy.
Good luck.
