Can you get Trichomonas from cats?

Can you get Trichomonas from cats?Weird question, but I've only slept with one person my entire life. We've been a couple for 10 years and we've been sleeping together monogamously for 8. I made my partner get tested for STDs before I would agree to sleep with him and he was clean (of course that was a long time ago). I have never had a sexually transmitted disease until a few months ago. I was diagnosed and we were both treated for Trichomonas. Everything was normal for awhile, but I started having symptoms again 2 days ago. I realized that the last time I contracted the disease was after using the bathroom at a friends house (where she keeps the litter box and it is rarely cleaned as it is a spare bathroom). And my most recent symptoms occured after using that same bathroom. You're probably wondering why I keep going in there, but you can't really help when you "gotta go" and someone else is in the main bathroom. Maybe it was just because the bathroom wasn't clean. I really don't want to think my partner is a cheat
Thats not entirely true Heather. I have done some research and found that 61% of randomly tested public toilet seats were positive for Trichomonas and the disease can remain active in moist environments for up to 3 hours outside of the human body. So it is not ALWAYS transmitted through intercourse, although that is the most common way to contract the disease. I also know that dogs and cats can have Trichomonas parasites, but they are different then the types found in humans. Given these two facts I was wondering if I could've contracted this disease from the toilet seat in my friend's "cat's bathroom" Since both times the onset of symptoms coincided with the use of that bathroom.

Sorry to tell you, but Trichomonas is a human sexually transmitted parasite only. Women typically show symptoms more because the vagina is their preferred habitat, hence the scientific name Trichmonas vaginalis. Men are usually asymptomatic, but carry it around to pass it on. Sometimes men may have a mild urethritis.

The parasite that causes trichomoniasis can survive for several hours in a moist environment. In theory, a person could get the infection by having direct contact with surfaces that are contaminated with the parasite, like a wet towel, a bathing suit, or a toilet seat. But it's unusual to get trichomoniasis without some sort of sexual contact.

A person infected with trichomonas is a carrier (even if symptoms are not present) and can spread trich from the time of infection until he or she is treated.
