yea kissing is a very very common way to get herpes, thats why its called sexually transmitted disease, kissing isn't sex but your coming in close enough contact to get an STD

Some terminology.

HSV1 is the virus that causes cold sores on your mouth (although it can be caught genitally.)

HSV2 is the virus that most easily infects the genitals, but can be caught orally.

"Oral herpes" means having either virus on your mouth, and "genital herpes" means having either virus on your genitals.

Oral herpes, usually caused by "type 1" or HSV1, is very VERY common. 50% to 80% of adults have it. If you've ever been kissed, even by your grandmother, then you've probably been kissed by someone with oral herpes.

Both kinds are almost always spread through skin-to-skin contact, and neither can be cured.

Hope this helps.

Dear Concerned:

It depends. Did she french kiss him? Did they share saliva, tongue? She can find out by going to her doctor and get tested for HSV1 and HSV2.

Kissing is one of the ways to get infected by the herpes virus. You should know that 90% of Americans have the herpes virus, 25% have the genital herpes virus.

Viral transmission is usually achieved by skin to skin contact or contact with bodily fluids. Please avoid kissing, wrestling, sharing food or utensils.

Viral infections remains in your body, unless there is a new scientific discovery that will be able to eliminate dormant viruses hidden in cells. It's the reason why the HIV epidemic is not eradicated. Medications can kill the virus, but not the dormant ones in cells.

I hope that you and your friend will read up on STDs. Get all partners tested before sleeping with anyone. A simple blood donation/visit to the free std clinic/your doctor (HERPES) are your choices.

Please remain calm in all situations. No std or disease will kill you right this instant (there are rare exceptions of course).

best wishes
