Is is possible for genital herpes to lie dormant for up to eight months?

Is is possible for genital herpes to lie dormant for up to eight months?I am a young man who has only had sexual intercourse with one girl, approximately eight months ago. However, about one and a half weeks ago I "hooked up" with another girl, making genital contact but not actually engaging in intercourse. Recently, I noticed a small cluster of bumps on my inner thigh near my scrotum, and I have been sick with worry as to whether or not this is genital herpes. It is hard to tell and I would rather not go to the doctor just yet. I did some research however, and learned that in males, herpes symptoms (i.e. the actual warts and blisters) appear 4-7 days after exposure to HPV virus. Now, my question is whether or not it is possible that the herpes has been dormant for the past eight months, or if it must be from most recent sexual encounter (one and a half weeks ago). The girl in question has somewhat of an unknown sexual history, but I trust her impeccably. I would like to believe that this is not herpes at all, but maybe just a rash of some sort.
Okay so if the herpes could not have been from eight months ago, and I did not have sexual intercourse with anyone at all since then, should I assume:
a) this is not herpes at all, something different (and hopefully benign).
b) I was given herpes by way of the most previous girl, one and a half weeks ago.

Or, horribly
c) herpes is an evil virus that can lie dormant for eight months.

Please help :/

Yes, herpes can lie dormant, problem is, its is rare for that to happen. There have been cases where a person can have it for years and not know at all, meaning they were spreading it, and had no idea they were. Its not evil. its just a virus that keeps on giving. Its a very common virus to have rather it be orally or genitally. I think you should go to your doctor or a free std clinic, and get the rash swabbed for both types of herpes. Herpes can happen from a one time encounter, not how many partners you have had. Most of the info online can be misleading sometimes, just a thought. Definitely talk to someone who may know more, I know that their are hot lines in different countries, where you can talk to someone who knows more about herpes or infectionous diseases. Also, their are sites where you can ask real doctors and people with 20+ years of experience with herpes.

So, to answer your question,
a. It can be because herpes can occur on the thigh but yes this can be anything. Its hard to identify herpes by looking.
b. No one really knows who gave them herpes. You can get it from oral or ANNY kind of skin contact.
c. Herpes is not evil and is treatable and common. Don't feel or think your the only one. When I see people who make a big deal of it, most of them probably don't know they may be carriers of the virus anyway. There are pros and cons to having it and just be happy this is not HIV or any damaging std.

It's not common but possible, herpes usually takes about 1-3 weeks to start showing symptoms. It's best to see a doctor while you think you have any signs or symptoms of it, if there are no symptoms it can be tricky to test for herpes, because it counts the number of antibodies of herpes that you may have.
HPV IS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT VIRUS it causes genital warts not herpes. HSV is what causes herpes. Blisters or sores can show that early but your body can suppress herpes for long periods of time. Don't be afraid to talk to your partners about their sexual history, you should know about things like that. A blood test can give you an estimate as to how long you may have had herpes.
Herpes usually causes symptoms such as: flu like symptoms, itching, tingling, and or burning at the site of infection, swollen genitals, burning and or trouble urinating, and or swollen lymph nodes. But not every one gets all of the classic symptoms and men can have fewer and or smaller out breaks because their immune systems tend to be stronger then an woman's immune system.
It could be all of the above, herpes can be a sneaky virus, you could have contracted it from your most recent or a past sexual partner. Or it could be some thing else because not every bump down there is caused by herpes or an std.
