This person needs to have a repeat of lab test to confirm the diagnosis.Has this person been taking any medications for HSV-2 ? Symptoms are usually very evident, but it is possible to have internal outbreaks with the lesions, like inside the bladder and rectum, but very uncommon situation. In the meantime continue to take precautions until his test is confirmed.Usually HSV-2 is the primary infective, although 10-30% of genital herpes are caused from HSV-1. Take care. SW RNP
