Yes, untreated chlamydia can develop into pelvic inflammatory disease. When the bacteria enters the upper portion of your reproductive organs, it can cause scarring in the fallopian tubes. Therefore making it very difficult to get pregnant. There is no set period of time where chlamydia turns into PID. It can take months or can take years. Both chlamydia and PID can be treated with antibiotics. It's best that if you test positive for chalmydia to get treated right away, and avoid the development of PID. Also, if you do test positive and are treated make sure you go back to the doctor after a couple months to retest. This ensures that you have gotten rid of the infection. Also, make sure that if you are continuing to have intercourse with your partner that they as well get tested and treated if necessary.
