Herpes is viral. Therefore that makes no sense that the dr would not be able to test for herpes just because you had been on antibiotics. Antibiotics would have no effect whatsoever on herpes, as antibiotics target bacteria, not viruses. Your dr can test for herpes in two ways: take a swab of the sore and test it that way, or test your blood. Personally, I would get a second opinion. Good luck :-)

Dear Concerned:
First things first, you're in shock, by fear. In a very distressed state. You need to calm down. Ask someone you trust for support and decision making. Your mind may play tricks on you and you may experience everything you read on the internet. Stop, relax, don't blow your money on visiting doctors.
Stop freaking out over nothing. Herpes will not kill you this very instant. 90% Americans have hsv1 and 25% have HSV2. The general population is ALIVE. So, don't worry.
You should take care of yourself before you worry about your partner. Life is not perfect, anything can happen.
The reality in your situation may be, your operation has weakened your immune system. That's why you have Tonsillitis, that why you have an infection or a CANKER SORE (It looks like a crater and it happens when your immune system is weak).
To fight all diseases, you need a healthy body. To get that, you need to stop worrying and look at the positive. Focus on what you have control over and accept what you do not have control over. Eat right, good nutricient, good exercises and good night sleep are some of the few things you can do to enhance your health.
Worrying adds white hair and it may shorten your life span as well as your sanity. Don't let it get out of hand. Take a deep breath in, and let it go. Woo- Saa.
Take care of your mind first.
Best wishes
