If Genital Herpes is classifies as a sexually transmitted disease (STD)?

If Genital Herpes is classifies as a sexually transmitted disease (STD)?thene why isn't a COLDSORE which IS in actual fact herpes, classified as an OTD (orally transmitted disease) when it can do and does eveything that genital herpes does?
You are ALL missing the point.
Whether it is HSV1 or HSV2 and whether it is genital or oral, it IS herpes. Just as an infection of genital herpes can cause birth defects, a new infection of oral herpes can do the same thing in a pregnant woman during her first trimester.

What I am getting at is this......it is the same except for it's strain, it acts the same, it spreads the same. Yet no one cares when its an orally transmitted disease.........lets just sweep it under the carpet then shall we????
I have had 30 years of personal experience with HSV1 and HSV2 and I know all about Chicken Pox/Shingles and other Herpes Viruses which all shed and spread....don't get me started on them. I'm not asking for an explanation of my virus......I'm asking why the virus is treated differently when it is in a different location other than the genitals. Other than a STIGMA, what is the difference?

Herpes Simplex Type I is considered a sexually transmitted disease. It is the virus that causes cold sores. Believe it or not, Herpes Simplex type one can be transmitted to your partners mouth, and also your partners genitals, becoming Herpes Simplex type II. That is why you should always use caution when a sore is present.

Chickenpox and shingles are also herpes type of viruses...herpes zoster, i believe...

You can only get Gential herpies by sexual contact . True you can get a cold sore by kissing and transferring but no all kissing is classified as sexual. Thus is not a STD

The difference is that cold sores or HSV-1 is not remotely as severe as genital herpes or HSV-2. A lot of people have HSV-1, but not HSV-2.

According to the CDC, HSV-2 can "lead to potentially fatal infections in babies." Also, "Herpes may play a role in the spread of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Herpes can make people more susceptible to HIV infection, and it can make HIV-infected individuals more infectious."

And when the CDC refers to Herpes, it generally means HSV-2 since HSV-1 doesn't have a lot of potentially serious health risks, which is why HSV-2 is considered an STD and HSV-1 isn't.

Cold sores are not commonly transmitted through sexual activity. You can get cold sores with out having sex. Most of the time it's transmitted through kissing some one that has a cold sore. If hepres isn't below the waist it's not considered to be an std.
