Is BV an STD or just a bacterial infection?

Is BV an STD or just a bacterial infection?I just got back from the doctor. He told me I have BV and gave me a cream for it. I just looked it up online and the CDC website says its an STD. Is this true? He didn't tell me that it was sexually transmitted, Im freaking out bc I did recenlty have sex with a new partner. Has anyone ever had this? and if its not an std how do u get it? Im not on any medication or anything. Thanks!

In the strictest sense of the word, BV is an STD.

BV is NOT and STD. Virgins have been diagnosed w/ this. I suffer from recurring BV. trust me, I have done ALOT of reading about this.

BV is not generally considered an STD as a woman who has never had sex can develop BV. It occurs similarly to thrush when there is a bacterial imbalance in the vagina. However unlike Thrush it can prove more difficult to "cure". It can be alleviated through antibiotics or by taking folic acid. Many other products such as "rephresh" etc do little to clear it.

Its not completely understood what causes it but be wary of anything that may interfere with the ph balance of the vagina even washing with perfumed products.

I had this for months before i figured out what it was, most information I researched myself and found on various internet sites however I cant stress the importance of seeing a doctor immediately instead of suffering in silence
