I think it is safe as long as you are in a honest relationship and before you have sex, BOTH of you get tested.
And always use condoms!

It's safer than ever to have sex. The fact that we know about all these diseases means we can prevent them from ever happening. In times when we weren't aware of STDs, they were far more widespread than they are today. With condoms, contraceptive pills and tests/treatments post sex, there has never been a safer time than now.
Don't worry about it too much. Take the proper precautions but don't let it ruin anything.
These diseases will be around for a very long time, I would have thought, but we'll get better and better at dealing with it.
Hope this helps a little!

I don't know, I hope they find a cure!
I watched a movie in health the other day that said 1/5 teenagers has clamydia.
which is a little scary, in my opinion!
I think the only way that STD's will decrease is if people only have one sexual partner for the rest of their life.
Or if people just don't have sex at all.(: (which is very unlikely.)

I think it's good that you are a little cautious about this. The problem with STIs is that people don't know that they have them and spread them to others especially in today's society where casual and promiscuous sex is the norm. And yes, more teenagers than ever are being diagnosed and treated for STIs. And although it is good for you and your partner to get tested, remember that they can't test for everything, and sometimes certain ones don't show up on every test.
I used to not care either, until I went to university. I talked to the people at the health clinic and they told me for that particular campus, 1 in 4 students had been treated for an STI, and that thay had seen everything from herpes to aids. That made me think long and hard about who I wanted to be doing what with.
kudos for thinking like a mature person and not a dumb horny teenager.

Ok well if you really want have sex the safest thing to do is for you and you're significant other to go together and get checked. If you're still a virgin you may not need to be checked unless you've had oral sex. If the tests come back negative, you're safe, but you should still use a condom anyway to protect from unwanted pregnancy. Really though, the best way to stay safe from STDs is abstinence because it takes like 6 months of having AIDs for it to show up on a test. Hope that helped! Stay safe.
