Herpes is spread through skin-to-skin contact, but that isnt' always sexual. You can get oral herpes from kissing your grandmother, which I would NOT call sexual activity.
The severity of the outbreak is not really related to how you caught it. Some people have bad outbreaks, others don't. You don't get worse outbreaks if you got it from a lover than if you got it from your grandma.
You can not get oral herpes "for no reason." Somehow, you came in contact with the virus. And its possible (although not very common) to contract herpes by sharing a drink or a cigarette with someone who has an active sore on their mouth. You would need to put the contaminated item in your mouth literally SECONDS after they used it, but if you were passing a bottle of beer around, its possible.

No; kids get coldsores.
Get sores in mouth checked by a dentist, as it may not be herpes virus causing it.
Either way, medication will help.

No. In fact it is NOT usually sexually transmitted. But you also cannot get it from nowhere - you have to catch it from the mouth of a person who is infected.
80% of adults have oral herpes, 60% of us have it by the time we go to high school.
You normally catch it as a baby or toddler, when an affectionate relative who happens to get cold sores gives you a kiss (often a parent) or from another child in the playground. Most of us catch it long before we remember.
Oral herpes IS cold sores. Cold sores and fever blisters are just names that we have for outbreaks of oral herpes. If you have ever had a cold sore, you have oral herpes.
You will always have the herpes virus in your body once you have caught it. Most people who have cold sores never get visible symptoms, and proably haven't had a cold sore since they were a child. However, you can still get one if the virus suddenly activates. Triggers include having a cold or another virus, various food such as chocolate, and getting your mouth sunburnt.
