well, u can pass them onto others if u don't have protected sex, depending on the std u can die from or it can get worse if they are not treated. some stds are life thretening. some can make u steril

The risks are very high if you are sexually active. Some things are more common than others. There's about a 90% chance of contracting HPV by the time your 40. The chances for herpes are pretty high too. Check on the Centers for Disease Control website http://www.cdc.gov/ to find more information.

You can become sterile, you can infect others if you aren't careful, you can die, you can wind up with a nasty nasty infection that takes a long time to get rid of plus something like herpes is VERY painful when you have outbreaks.
