Bacterial STDs like Syphilis, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are curable. Viral STDs like herpes and warts are not curable - you can only use medicine to suppress out-breaks.
Many times, both types of infections are asymptomatic in women (meaning, you don't know you've got it until it's too late). This can lead to unfixable damage, and bad times.

Bacteria are tiny microorganisms that have a cell wall, a ring of DNA, and some ribosomes.
Viruses are extremely small packets of DNA wrapped in a protein coat. They don't contain much more than that and can't survive nor replicate on their own.
Bacterial STDs are caused by bacteria. Bacteria can be killed with antibiotics.
Viral STDs are caused by viruses. Viruses cannot be killed with antibiotics, but many viral illnesses can be prevented with vaccines.
Bacterial STDs include: gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis
Viral STDs include: HIV, herpes, genital warts, hepatitis B
