Gumdrop Girl
Well, we can't say it's causal, but in the past 10 years or so when the US made the shift to federally fund abstinence-only programs, the CDC has also seen an increase in STD rates in the same time period. While more teens are claiming to wait longer before starting to have sex, we are also seeing inconsistent condom use for alternative sex acts (like anal sex and oral sex), which are increasing in popularity.
As a simple correlation: abstinence-only sex ed is associated with increasing incidence of STDs.
With all that said, abstinence works WHEN YOU USE IT. The moment you stop abstaining is the moment you better use a condom!!!
