Im 36 weeks pregnant and just found out i have herpes simplex virus 2 can i request a c section? Now, i just found out i have HSV 2 but ive had it since before i was pregnant. but thru my research and personal feelings i would rather have a c section, and even tho i wanted a vaginal birth this is what i feel would be more safe. do you think my doctor will give me a c-section?

Well you should consult this with your ob, they usually go for a vaginal birth unless you are experiencing an active outbreak....

Good Luck
I am sure the doctors will make the correct decision that is safer for you and baby.

i dont know if they will allow you to have a c-section, only if you have an active outbreak. i also found out when i was pregnant that i had hsv2. very traumatizing! but i got over it. my baby was born perfectly healthy. just talk with your doc. if you trust your doc, follow his recommendations. if you dont trust him, find another one.

I really don't know the answer to your questions, but these answers disturb me!

This not about how your "doctor will make the correct decision" or whether they will "allow" you to have a c-section.

You should talk over the benefits and risks or each procedure with your doctor, but YOU get to decide. I think the transmission rate is low if you aren't having an active outbreak, and I'm pretty sure you can take Valtrex while pregnant, which would reduce the transmission rate even more. Please discuss the options with your doctor, but if your doctor won't let YOU make the decision, get a new doctor.

Good luck!

It is always up to a woman to decide- Its your body right? I have 2 kids vaginally and have had herpes for 5 years and they were both fine, they told me only if i had an active outbreak should I get a c-section but it should be your decison

Yes. In fact, knowing that you have HSV 2, your doctor should suggest that you have a C-section. It is the safest thing for your baby. That way, if you happen to have an outbreak when it is time for delivery, there won't be any problems. Delivering vaginally when you have an outbreak is extremely dangerous for the baby.
