Ovarian infection- any further information would be great?

Ovarian infection- any further information would be great?Bit of background: I went to see my doctor recently with what I thought was a ruptured ovarian cyst (I'm a midwife, I have a good idea about female genito-urinary issues!). He referred me for an ultrasound, and the (very rude and unhelpful) doctor who did the ultrasound said it looked like I'd had an infection in my right ovary. He didn't say what it had been, or what caused it.

I am so scared that I could have had pelvic inflammatory disease. I've never had a sexually transmitted disease (yes I have been checked!), and I've never been pregnant, so I have no idea how I could have gotten pelvic inflammatory disease, if that is what the infection was.

My questions are these: Is there any other way I could have contracted pelvic inflammatory disease (other than STDs and pregnancy)? If it isn't pelvic inflammatory disease, is there any other infection that could have occured solely in one ovary?

Any advice is well appreciated- I am so frightened to think that I may have had an infection that causes infertility in women! :-(

Hi
I don't know the answers to all of your questions but yes you can get P.I.D some other way my sister had it when she was 20 she got told that she will never have kids ever now look at her! 4 years down the line and expecting TWINS she is 22weeks now cant wait and am soo happy for her.
Now i am experiencing the same thing. I am 20 and have been having pains for about 2 years now i went to see my GP he transferred me to another GP she transferred me to a gynocologist (very rude and unpleasant!) had an ultra sound they found nothing so he suggested that i was LYING!! about the pains i was having! I still have them now but there is nothing i can do! Im just hoping its not the end of fertility for me too..
I know how your feeling, all full with worry! its not nice!
