Why is everyone saying STI instead of STD all of a sudden?

Why is everyone saying STI instead of STD all of a sudden?STI means sexually transmitted infection and STD means sexually transmitted disease.

☁ even the clouds cry ☁
Sexually Transmitted Infection is more accurate than saying Disease,
because some of the things you contract are NOT diseases,
and suit the idea of infection more, because most are just infections. :)

STI is actually more accurate than the term we have been using for years (STD).

http://www.yourprivatedoctor.co.uk/Services/Sexual-Health/Symptoms/ : STD stands for Sexually Transmitted Disease which isn't really an accurate term. A more accurate term is STI which stands for Sexually Transmitted Infection. Since not all STDs are diseases and are in fact infections the medical community has incorporated this new term which will soon be the standard when talking about STDs or STIs. Some STD examples include: Herpes, HPV (Genital Warts), and AIDS HIV. STIs include: Honorrhea, Syphilis and Chlamydia. There are even parasites that are considered STDs or STIs because they are related to sexual contact. They include: Scabies (Body Lice) and Genital Crabs or Pubic Lice both of which are parasites that live on or in the human body.
