unprotected sex causes a sexually transmitted disease

It depends on what is causing the urinary tract infection. In some cases in men and women it can be one in the same. Generally most the time UTI's are caused by bacteria usuall coliform bacteria that get lodged in our urinary tract such as E. Coli. However, this is not usually called a sexually transmitted disease as you can get this bug from any number of ways.
But some can also cause STD's as well but the overlap is not common. For example men can have an infection in the urethra with discharge, technically this is the urinary tract, but if is is gonhorrea it is also called a sexually transmitted disease because sexual contact is the method of spread.
You can get a uti if you're a female from excessive sex. In women, the urethra, the tube from the bladder to the outside world is short and if you're having sex it is easy to get secretions carrying bacterial shoved inside and cause a urinary tract infection, this is also known as honeymoon cystitis.

No, a SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED disease can only be transmitted through sexual contact, thus the name.
