its a virus
LoLo
It is a virus it can live on the ground, furniture, anywhere the dog has been that has been contaiminated by feces. It is very hard to kill.
If your dogs are vaccinated I wouldn't worry to much about it.
The dogs at risk are older un-vaccinated dogs, and of course puppies.
But it is transmitted by feces.

The dog gets the virus from the soil. I think it stays in the soil for like 6 years too.

Parvo can be transmitted from animal from animal, from contaminated soil, and contaminated "tools" or fomites like food bowls, brushes. It requires that some amount of feces be ingested by a dog that is susceptible to parvo.
This is a great website for all sorts of veterinary information.

Its both.
Parvo can stay up in the soil or whatever for up to 7 years and is trasmitted by animal feces.( what my vet told me)
So its always a good idea to treat a yard before moving in, especially if you have dogs....as it is trasmitted by infected animal feces.
here is more bout parvo
