CHICAGO - Startling government research on teenage girls and sexually transmitted diseases sends a blunt message to kids who think they're immune: It's liable to happen to you or someone you know.
In the first study of its kind, researchers at the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found at least one in 4 teenage American girls has a sexually transmitted disease.
The most common one is a virus that can cause cervical cancer...
Parents want abstinence education for their kids," Wright said, in a statement. She noted that the government spends 12 dollars to promote contraceptives for every one dollar spent on abstinence.
"Letting this authorization expire will show whether congressmen represent parents and good health practices or groups that promote and profit from teen sexual activity

Abstinence only programs have been proven not to work. There is direct link between abstinece only education and the number of STD's and teen pregnancies.

No. Kids are going to have sex, might as well teach them how to do it safely.

Everything should be taught. My health class talked about having safe butt sex too. Not like I tried it, but the information needs to get out. They taught us everything!
How many kids in my highschool got pregnant: 2 out of 1,300. It was also a huge shock too. :/

I believe abstinence is something I will understand and be happy for doing later on in life. Until then in my youth my mind shall run eagerly

The problem lies in abstinence ONLY education. Teaching abstinence is good. But it must be supplemented with education on what to do when you decide to not be abstinent. You would think this would be obvious. But in some state it is illegal to teach kids how to use a condom.
It's like giving a kid a loaded gun and saying "just don't touch it".
