What is the cause of Bacteria Vaganosis? (Did I spell that Right?)?

What is the cause of Bacteria Vaganosis? (Did I spell that Right?)?I'm trying to pin point the main cause of this bacteria I know its not only sexually transmitted but it can also be apart of your natural pH balance down there in that region. So can anyone tell me some other causes of this bacteria?

Some times it is different bacterias but the one most identified is "gardnerella" which is in the vagina in a very small amount. Different things make it over grow like hormones change, wearing a wet swimming suit too long, tampon in too long, etc. and then the gardnerella will have a yellowish to greenish discharge and smells like dead fish.
