This is a very good question.
When the HIV/AIDS first started going public, it was when gays were not accepted in society at all, let alone how to have safe sex as gays. Since there was no worry of pregnancy, some gays got the reputation of being very promiscuous, not using condoms and stuff. So, obviously, it was spread much easier that way.
Now, obviously this is just as true among gay couples as it is straight, but the homophobes are the ones who blame the gays. False blame. In the earlier days they weren't as careful (just as most weren't) but they aren't to blame.

In the 70's, everyone believed that gays created and HIV/AIDS. This was, obviously, completely wrong.

Really? It seems that you don't know how the whole thing started: with some cracker jack pocking a monkey in Africa. Most 'gays" die of AIDS. Get real and get with the program. Unless, of course, you desire your own 4 letters. There is no such thing as a homophobe, just disgusted heteros. How about that, Ru Paul.
