If syphilis was "the just wrath of God" why did He allow it to be cured? Is the doctor that cured it in Hell?

If syphilis was "the just wrath of God" why did He allow it to be cured? Is the doctor that cured it in Hell?"Syphilitics were condemned from pulpits and from chairs in university medical schools. John Calvin (1509-1564) announced that 'God has raised up new diseases against debauchery'; medical authorities willingly agreed. The greatest English surgeon of the sixteenth century, William Clowes (1540-1604), who counted Queen Elizabeth among his patients, announced to his colleagues and patients that syphilis was 'loathsome and odious, yea troublesome and dangerous, a notable testimony of the just wrath of God.' A century later, a French physician, M. Flamand, summed up this point of view concisely by announcing that venereal diseases were 'the just rewards of unbridled lust.' Disease commonly invited theological speculation, but in the case of syphilis people felt that little speculation was necessary. Just as fornication opened the door to the pox, so the pox opened the door to chastisement and blame."

He was only a little mad... A "god's" version of "your grounded for a month."

Your argument is well thought out and researched. I wish that I could give you a longer answer, but God loves mercy. God doesn't desire to punish anybody, but he must. Otherwise, he wouldn't be just. Sex in marriage with one partner is God's standard. When people choose to disobey that standard, there are consequences such as syphillis. Think about the AIDS epidemic for a minute. What about herpes? What about unwanted pregnancies? God does punish people for their sins sometimes, but usually the consequences of disobeying God's standards does enough. God doesn't want people to experience negative consequences, they ALWAYS happen when we choose to do what we want to do, rather than live by God's standards. God is full of mercy, and will forgive ANY and ALL sins if you sincerely ASK and CHANGE the way you THINK and ACT.

Because God is full of mercy, he provided a sufficient solution for the problem of sin; it is Jesus Christ. It is your choice whether or not you want your sins forgiven. Otherwise, you will experience the wrath of God (Remeber God is just, and must punish all sin. God doesn't get joy out of destroying his beloved creatures).

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." Romans 10:9-11
