No that is only a method of birth control. Birth control does nothing to help prevent a woman from getting an std or HIV. She should still use condoms with her partner if she doesn't want to get an std or have her partners tested before they have intercourse.

it will not protect against an std, however if you do catch one it will make it more likely that the std will travel up the copper-t and cause pelvic inflammatory disease.
