Is HIV the most common STD in America?

Is HIV the most common STD in America?I was just wondering if HIV/AIDS is the most common STD in America...if not, what is?
Also, is it true that HIV is more common in different 'groups'? (races/gays).
If you have unprotected sex once or twice, do you most likely have HIV?
And finally, if a person has HIV/AIDS, and you have unprotected sex with them/share a needle (whatever) do you automatically contract it?
-Just some random questions, thanks for all the answers in advance! [: . (Answer what you can)!
I'm not saying i think i have it :x. its just out of curiousity. Things like this always make me think. And it seems no one takes it seriously.

The CDC has all the information you are looking for. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Herpes are common.

I don't think its even close. I believe HPV is the most common viral STD http://www.examiner.com/x-7707-Infectious-Disease-Examiner~y2009m5d17-20-million-cases-of-HPV-in-the-US-at-any-given-time and chlamydia is the most common bacterial STD http://www.examiner.com/x-7707-Infectious-Disease-Examiner~y2009m6d24-Chlamydia-the-most-common-bacterial-sexually-transmitted-infection

In US, most common STD is not HIV but syphilis. But this statistic is some years back. I'm not to sure if the status had change.

HIV is the most common STD in Africa.

I wouldn't use the word 'common'. But HIV affects regardless of races and countries. As long they have factors and mode that transmit HIV, they've got it! Years back, HIV is most found in drug addicts, homosexual. Not in recent years.

Recent statistic, HIV are found mostly on people with normal lifestyle (no drugs, not homo). Their spouse caught it maybe from CSW and pass it to his spouse.

Also, high chance but not 'automatically', sharing a HIV contaminated needle, will get HIV. It's possible not to get HIV from HIV-infected needles.

The reason no one take it seriously, is many people has the mentality - it wouldn't happen to me. I just have casual sex once in blue moon. I can't be so lucky.

Yet, many people, after exposure, may start to fear and start worry about it. That's why you see so many questions re HIV here. Mostly, they are exposed and somewhat, regretted. So, they come to such places (yahoo answer) to put their mind at ease, to try find how high risk are they in. And hope to receive answer such as - don't worry, you won't be so lucky as to catch it.

But that's only ostrich mentality and the vicious cycle goes on.

HPV is the most common.

The LOW estmates are that 50% of men and 77% of women have it. (The stat for men is completely inaccurate because there is no way to relaibly test men.)
