Why is the American public education such a disaster?

Why is the American public education such a disaster?I studied in South America and Europe during some of my highschool years, and the take these cultures have on public school system is very different from the one we have.

Schools over there are more disciplined, students wear school uniforms, teachers can openly talk to students about many issues like sexually transmitted diseases while here in the US parents would raise hell for that and have the teacher fired.

Also topics in schools overseas are more aimed at international studies, politics, culture, history.... here the aim is more pro-American brainwashing crap like the US is the best on this and that, not really anything international.

The saddest part of all is how our students are more focused on being jocks, or cheerleaders, or thugs, or the emmo rather than on studying.

At the end of the physical year overseas u take a test about everything you learned at school and if u fail you repeat the grade, here we have no child left behind.. how crappy is that!

first of all u don't consider south america .. "AMERICA" dude and we have the best education system than any place else. what sux here is the medical system which unfortunately is a business.

the students over here just dont care. most of them are too busy with their social life rather than worrying about education.

Conservatives have cut funding and most send their children to private schools, leaving those who cannot afford private education to suffer.

We are using a method of teaching reading that was developed to teach deaf children in the 1800's and then abandoned for the deaf, recent studies are showing this methode may be responsible for increased dislexcia and even ADHD in america as the natural phonics were abandoned in the thirties for the work books See Jane Run and this is assinign and should be abandoned for our children just like it was for the deaf.
