In the treatment of chlamydia, is it the same for men and woman?

In the treatment of chlamydia, is it the same for men and woman?Like if a man went to the doctor and got a prescription to treat the infection(chlamydia), would it treat a woman with chlamydia?

Dr.amr helmy
the main treatment of chlamydia is macrolides antibiotics as erythromycin or azythromycin

Christine
Yes, the same drugs can be used to treat both men and women for Chlamydia.
However, the doses are different for each person, and certain drugs can be dangerous for certain people to use (like if the woman had past liver problems, the doctor may choose a different drug for her that would be gentler on the liver).
You should never ever share prescription drugs. That includes your scenario of a man having his prescription filled for someone else's use. Very bad, dangerous idea.

Alli
Yes, the same drugs can be used on both men and woman to treat and cure chlamydia. If a woman is pregnant however, then certain drugs should not be used because they might hurt the baby.

It's always important to talk to your doctor before taking any kind of medication. It's also illegal to share prescription medications. Prescriptions should only be used for the person it was prescribed for.

Take care!
