Is it perhaps unresponsible of rap artist to promote a "gansta" lifestyle?

Is it perhaps unresponsible of rap artist to promote a "gansta" lifestyle?Although there are a few reasonable rap artist out there that are not promoting bad things, I am talking about the vast majority of those who do.

Ex- hailing the fact that you've been to jail.
(we have more college aged blacks in Jail than in dorm rooms.. and they think that's super cool)
Ex- talking down to people who speak standard american English
(How many people who can't or won't speak clear English would you be willing to hire for a non blue collar job??)
Ex- promoting promiscuity and being mysoginistic in women
(according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, shows that an alarming 48% of African-American girls ages 14-19 have a sexually transmitted disease, compared with 20% of young white and Mexican-American females.)
Yet every Rap video that features women has them half naked and only showing that they are good at laying on their back..Is this taking control of their sexuality or just being a hoochie
Actually I wasn't using the 2006 Census stats reported by ABC But rather check the stats from the Bureau of Justice..

It's kinda sad
Lex. This is the first time Ive ever asked this. Check my profile... Gosh .. Please do not generalize me with everyone else.

I think the word "irresponsible" is an understatement. There are just too many gullible listeners of this type of music, and unfortunately, the gullible bunch believe that this type of lifestyle is good and promises a prosperous life, but in reality, its not.

all that you said is somehow right. I think those ppl are not doing anything good to society. Unfortunately, there are a lot of kids who don't have their parents with them to guide them which makes them more vulnerable to these kind of message on the media.

The way I see it is that rappers are giving a message to society and this message makes other people discriminate them or put them down. When you see one of them by him/herself you don't discriminate, but when you see them together it makes you dislike them. Also, some of them show society that they are still resentful for what their ancestors suffered in the past. People need to learn from their mistakes and don't let that bother them

Mind2Mind
Sure vast majority....I'm not disagreeing but the stats about more black men in jail then college is false. The age range the government use was 18-55 instead of 18 21. The media in general promote misogynistic from t.v show, print ad, movies and etc.The rap videos now you see less and less of women because the Music industry in general is going down. The videos are low budget and you see more dudes (30 people in long T-shirt) then anything now.

Well on one hand the rap artist can say they aren't promoting this lifestyle. On a boondocks episode, there is a rapper that makes a song that disses Grandpa. Next thing you know tons of old people are getting attacked by teens/listeners of the song. The rappers response "I didn't tell these fools to go out and do this. I'm just singing what I go through." And he's right, he never told anyone to go beat old people they just did it. So rapping about how they can "make it rain" or how many bitches are in their bed every night, might just be them rapping about their lifestyle. But even then these rappers have to take in account the way people interpret things. Especially when they make videos. So yes it's irresponsible. Then again if you know your kids are gullible/stupid enough to do something just because a song gave them the idea, don't have them listen to this kind of music.

nothing wrong with music..but if it somewhat makes the youngsters perceiving that bad lifestyle is good and cool..definitely we need to worry and do something about it..yeah,we can differentiate what wrong from good deeds.but hows about those teenagers who are still searching for themselves, what to be, what to do in life etc..not only rappers, in these sense all musician should acknowledge these issue and try to make use their music as a mean to make people grow and make world a better place to live in..
